Our highly effective healing products for the treatment of Poison Ivy and other irritating plants use locally grown, hand-picked herbs that are abundant in the New England area. They really do calm the agonizing itching and spread of skin rashes and soothe the skin, helping it to heal faster. Our remedies have been refined and improved over the years, using the best herbs available in the most effective combinations we've found. Peak harvesting season for plants used in our products, such as Jewelweed and Sweet Fern, is July through September or October in Massachusetts, and a little longer in Connecticut and Rhode Island. Our products are hand-poured and hand blended just like the old days. We delight in what we do, and a lot of care and love goes into formulating and preparing our remedies. WE HOPE YOU ENJOY USING OUR PRODUCTS and we look forward to hearing about your experiences with them!
POISON IVY BODY LOTION
This creamy lotion is a cross between our salve and our cream; thinner, but designed to be applied to larger areas of the body affected by irritation. Leaves a slight oily feeling and is best applied when skin is moist from bathing or swimming. Hand blended with fresh herbs and witch hazel and loads of Vitamin E. Fragrance free and of course safe for children and infants. Apply as needed.

WITCH HAZEL EXTRACT
This is a highly concentrated sun-infusion of witch hazel leaves and bark, jewelweed, sweet fern and other wonderful plants infused in a commercial solution of witch hazel extract. It can be extremely cooling and drying to affected areas and can be dabbed on with a cotton ball. We use the real, organic witch hazel leaves and bark steeped for 3-4 weeks until it turns a beautiful orange color from the jewelweed blossoms. Commercial witch hazel solution is 14% alcohol so it can potentially cause stinging to skin that has been overly scratched! Please use care using this if this is the case. Also, it is best kept refrigerated and out of the heat.

An important reminder: While playing in the woods or the garden, often times, "antidote" herbs are growing right near poisonous plants. It is very helpful to familiarize yourself with them as they can really come in handy if you need them! For example, there is often jewelweed growing at some stage near poison ivy, and you will frequently see lovely burdock leaves spreading out near nettle patches (ouch). Use the nearby plant fresh, applied directly to the sting and it will often dramatically reduce the irritation that occurs.
A thick, rich balm made with olive oil, beeswax, and healing herbs of jewelweed, sweet fern, comfrey, chickweed, St. Johnswort, calendula, witch hazel and lots of Vitamin E. Maybe be applied to any area affected and as often as needed; completely safe for children and infants. Great for overnight protection and comfort.

POISON IVY LIQUID SOAP/SHAMPOO
Unfortunately, exposure is often extended to hair and scalp areas which are hard to treat with creams and lotions. We recommend this extremely gentle olive oil soap, which has literally been cooked with copious amounts of jewelweed, fern, comfrey and other soothing and healing plants. It is also useful for other areas of the body which are affected and which may be further irritated by soap. This remedy will generally help speed healing and shorten the time of flare-ups.

To the folks at Earthworm Herbals,
I've got a story I thought you'd appreciate, so here goes:
On Tuesday evening, September 7, my dog and I headed out for an evening mountain bike ride. I thought I'd check out a path that I'd heard about but never been on. It was somewhat overgrown so my attention was spent keeping little whips of tree from smacking my face. When things finally opened up I was terrified by the realization that I was in the middle of the largest poison ivy patch I'd ever seen! Poison ivy was behind me and in front of me as far as I could see, and it had been brushing against my legs for the whole distance.
In the past I have had (many) very violent reactions to poison ivy, and have taken steroids to help me through. I felt like I was in a horror movie, and I could hear the music from "Psycho" playing in my head. I thought "if I can just stay on my bike and get out of here I'll keep the damage to a minimum." Just then the path was blocked by two huge logs and I had to get off my bike and stand in knee deep plants.
As quickly as I could, I biked to a friend's house and washed off with their dish detergent and their hose. Poor Wagner (my dog) had to get a bath, too, as well as my bike.
I had already started breaking out by morning, when a friend of mine told me to check out this homeopathic remedy called Rhus Toxicodendron (or Poison Ivy) - it's a tablet that you stick under your tongue and let it dissolve. At any rate, the woman at the co-op turned me on to your products and told me to give them a try. Well, between the tablets, and your shampoo and lotion, by today (Friday the 10th) you can barely see where I had the poison ivy at all!
As far as I'm concerned it's nothing short of miraculous. I was looking forward to weeks of itching and oozing... I'm so excited, I feel like I've discovered a cure! Thanks for making your products!!!!
